BSE (BUKU SEKOLAH ELEKTRONIK) Jakarta, Kompas - Ketiadaan jaringan internet menyulitkan sekolah-sekolah di daerah, terutama di luar Jawa, untuk mengakses buku elektronik atau BSE di http://bse.depdikna s.go.id, www.depdiknas. go.id, www.pusbuk.or. id, dan www.sibi.or. id. Di Kabupaten Barito Utara, Kalimantan Tengah, misalnya, internet hanya dapat diakses di sekitar Muara Teweh yang merupakan ibu kota kabupaten tersebut. Warga pedalaman pun kesulitan kalau harus mendatangi warnet terdekat karena jarak sekolah pedalaman di Barito Utara—misalnya di Lampeyong dan Berangin, Kecamatan Teweh Timur—dengan Muara Teweh mencapai 125 kilometer. "Tanpa ada bantuan pengadaan komputer yang tersambung jaringan internet, kami belum bisa memperkirakan kapan siswa dan guru di pedalaman bisa mengakses buku lewat internet ini," kata Kepala Dinas Pendidikan Barito Utara Masdulhaq, Sabtu (28/6). Nur Taufik, guru Informasi di SMA Negeri 5 Samarinda, mengatakan, satu buku sekolah elektronik ternyata datanya berukuran besar (lebih dari 500 megabit) yang cuma bisa diunduh secara utuh. Akibatnya, pengunduhan agak lama. Dia pernah mengunduh satu buku berukuran 623 megabit dan perlu waktu 15 menit memakai komputer berteknologi terkini. "Waktu 15 menit itu lama, apalagi jika memakai komputer yang teknologinya ketinggalan, " kata Taufik. Sebaiknya, materi suatu BSE bisa diunduh setiap bab. Dengan demikian, siswa tak perlu mengunduh bagian lain yang dianggap tidak penting. Waktu pengunduhan pun akan lebih cepat. Keluhan serupa disampaikan guru dan kepala sekolah di sejumlah daerah. Di Kabupaten Ogan Ilir, Sumatera Selatan, misalnya, tidak ada operator internet yang menyediakan jaringan secara cepat. Atasi masalah teknis Secara terpisah, Depdiknas berupaya agar akses masyarakat terhadap buku sekolah elektronik meluas dan mengatasi persoalan teknis yang menyebabkan masyarakat sulit mengakses buku-buku tersebut. "Kami sedang dalam proses upload untuk menaruh materi ke server-server di sejumlah daerah agar server di pusat atau Depdiknas tidak terlalu berat terbebani," ujar Kepala Pusat Teknologi Komunikasi Depdiknas Lilik Gani. Hal itu diharapkan dapat mempercepat pengunduhan buku elektronik tersebut. Pada tahap awal, materi akan di-upload ke server di lima daerah, yakni Aceh, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, dan Makassar. Selain itu, pada Agustus 2008, Buku Sekolah Elektronik akan diresmikan oleh Presiden RI dengan jumlah buku sekolah elektronik sebanyak 295 judul. Saat ini telah terdapat 49 judul buku. Typical teacher network v the networked teacher

GOOD TEACHER The Typical Teacher Network and The Networked Teacher are two diagrams created by Alec Couros from the Faculty of Education at the University of Regina as part of his doctoral thesis to signify the different ways in which teachers network in the 21st century. Like Neil Winton, I can also relate to the image of The Networked Teacher as a pictorial representation of my own experiences of using Web 2.0 tools and how networking in this way can greatly enhance one's own professional development. The challenge now is to encourage more colleagues to adopt the second model so they can too see what a difference it can make to their own working practice.
